HIGH SCHOOL READY

CASE STUDY

High School Ready at Leyburn Primary School

At Leyburn Primary School, Year 6 pupils have been preparing for the next big step in their education journey with the High School Ready programme designed to equip children with the knowledge and confidence to make healthy lifestyle choices as they move up to secondary school.

Impact on Students

As part of the programme, the children explored the benefits of growing their own herbs and eating seasonally, understanding how small, everyday decisions about food can have a big impact on health and wellbeing. Inspired by these lessons, they created beautiful, vibrant watercolour artwork celebrating seasonal produce and homegrown herbs.

Outcome

The High School Ready programme at Leyburn not only supported pupils’ creative expression but also gave them practical, positive ways to think about their food choices and wellbeing skills that will stay with them as they begin secondary school and beyond.

Our fantastic Year 6 class have been taking part in the High School Ready programme, which helps prepare them for the exciting move to secondary school by focusing on making healthy lifestyle choices, especially around food.
As part of the programme, the children have been learning about the importance of growing their own herbs and eating seasonally. These important messages inspired some truly amazing artwork, where they used their watercolour painting skills to create beautiful, vibrant pieces celebrating seasonal produce and homegrown herbs.

The artwork shows not only their creativity, but also their growing understanding of how making thoughtful food choices can support a healthy lifestyle. We're so proud of how they've combined knowledge and artistry...secondary school, here they come!
