What a fantastic way to celebrate World Food Day 2025!
A huge thank you to the amazing team at FoodSavers Network and FoodSavers Cookery School, everyone at Darley Street Market in Bradford, the wonderful market traders, and of course, the children and Deli Kitchen for making this morning so special.
The children had a brilliant time exploring the market, chatting with traders, learning about fresh produce, and discovering new ingredients. The highlight? Rolling up their sleeves in the cookery school to prepare a delicious Thai green curry, which went down a treat!
Many of the pupils tried new foods for the first time and left proudly carrying ingredients like spices, watermelons, and papayas to share with their families later. One child said with a grin, “I feel like I’m on MasterChef!” while another proudly added, “I can’t wait to cook this for my mum, she’ll be so surprised I made curry!”
For us at Rethink Food, this was about more than just cooking. It was about helping children build positive connections with food, explore new cultures, and see how learning about food can be exciting, creative, and confidence-building.
One teacher who attended shared:
“The children absolutely loved every minute. For many of them, this was their first time cooking from scratch they were so proud of themselves. It’s brilliant to see them excited about healthy food and learning outside the classroom.”
Our Co-founder Nathan Atkinson said:
“Events like this show what’s possible when communities come together around food. It’s inspiring to see children learning, laughing, and tasting new things, exactly the kind of experience that helps shape healthy, sustainable habits for life.”
This event was delivered as part of the National School Pantry Network, an initiative from Rethink Food CIC that helps schools create sustainable, community-driven solutions to food insecurity.
