Rethink Food has been mentioned in the latest report on physical activity and nutrition by Child of the North 2024 Campaign – Report 5.
Child of the North is joint project with the N8 Research Partnership offering a research and policy-based programme fighting for a fairer future for children wherever they grow up.

Our mention in the report underscores the significant impact of food insecurity in Keighley and highlights the collaborative efforts of Keighley Schools Together (KST) with ourselves in addressing this critical issue.
By rerouting surplus supermarket food through schools, we’ve provided families with accessible alternatives to food banks, helping to combat food insecurity head-on. This initiative, along with data workshops facilitated by the Leeds Institute for Data Analytics (LIDA), has empowered students to analyze and contribute valuable data on local food access, enhancing their skills in data science and research.
The findings in this report are crucial for the North, where food insecurity is particularly acute. Addressing these challenges not only improves health outcomes but also fosters educational attainment and overall well-being for our children and young people.
Professor David Taylor-Robinson, Health Equity North Academic Director added: “It is not acceptable that children born in the North face the prospect of shorter lives. Everyone deserves to have the same chances, but we know that many families in the North face a daily struggle to meet basic needs.”
