I’ve realised something recently… I’m a secondhand superfan.
For years, the music in my car hasn’t really been mine. It’s been controlled by my kids, which means I’ve had a full immersion in their music taste.
One artist in particular has had a lot of airtime, Yungblud.
I’ve lost count of how many gigs I’ve taxied them to, how many times I’ve stood outside venues after the show waiting for a photo, and yes… I once queued for 7 hours for a meet and greet.
Somewhere along the way, I realised I know all the words, the backstory, and probably more than I expected! He was even the most played artist on my Apple Music last year!
And this weekend, I’m going again… not just as the driver, but genuinely looking forward to it.
It got me thinking. I’ve heard people talking about reverse mentoring in work settings, but this is it in real life. Learning doesn’t just flow down, it flows up, sideways, and sometimes through a playlist you didn’t choose.
There’s something in that. Culture, perspective, energy… the next generation aren’t just coming through, they’re already shaping how we think, what we value, and how we connect.
