I found this in the fridge and it made me smile.

Apparently, it “lit my wife’s brain up”. She was going to buy a lettuce anyway, but this one drew her in because it looked like a football.

Simple, fun and clever.

It also made me think about how often major sporting events, like the World Cup, are used to promote food and drink products that are not exactly helping us make healthier choices. Fast food, sugary drinks, snacks and alcohol all seem to get plenty of airtime when football is involved.

The colours, packaging, excitement and emotion. Sport creates attention, and attention shapes behaviour, especially for children (and adults in this case!).

So why can’t we use the same creativity to promote healthier food? Healthy food doesn’t need to be boring, it just needs better marketing.

If a lettuce can make someone smile, what else could we make more appealing, more visible and more fun? What healthy food would you give the full tournament treatment to?
