At Rethink Food, we believe that change begins with small, consistent acts. That’s why this January we’re launching the 5 k Every Day Challenge, asking individuals, teams and communities to walk, jog or run 5 km each day for the month. Why 5k every day? Because healthy habits compound, momentum builds and when we move together we signal that health, wellbeing and food-equity are not optional extras, they’re central.
In the context of rising pressures on food security, cost-of-living stress and widening health disparities, this challenge is more than a fitness goal. It’s a statement: our mission is healthy people, healthy planet. As we move our bodies, we also move the dial on awareness, funding and action behind food education, rescued-food redistribution and school-based transformation.
The funds raised will directly support our core work:
- The National School Pantry Network, allowing more schools to offer wrap-around food-security and wellbeing support.
- Curriculum-aligned programmes that bring food, health and sustainability into the heart of the school day.
- Community distribution of rescued food and the building of resilient partnerships across business, education and grassroots.
“Our goal is to move with purpose,” says co-founder Nathan Atkinson. “Every step we take in January is an investment in the children, families and schools we serve. It’s about showing up, staying consistent and affirming that health and equity matter.”
We’re calling on you, teachers, business partners, parents, young people to join us. Register, commit to your 5 k every day, share your journey and help generate the momentum we need for 2025 and beyond. Because when we move together, we make change together.
