At Rethink Food, we believe that the future belongs to those who understand the power of their choices because every action, no matter how small, can spark change. This Earth Day, we’re proud to stand behind the global call to action: “Our Power, Our Planet.”

This year’s theme is a powerful reminder that the future of our planet depends on how we choose to power our lives. From renewable energy to the food on our plates, the time is now to rethink our impact and at Rethink Food, that’s exactly what we help young people do.

The Earth Day 2025 campaign urges individuals, communities, and governments to triple global clean electricity generation by 2030. That means investing in wind, solar, hydro, and other renewable energy sources that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and create a more sustainable future.

Did you know?

  • Currently, fossil fuels still account for more than 60% of global electricity production.
  • By switching to renewable sources, we can prevent millions of tonnes of CO₂ emissions every year.
  • Food systems are responsible for over one-third of global greenhouse gas emissions – how we grow, distribute, and consume food has a direct impact on the planet.

That’s where we come in.

Empowering Young People through Our Agents of Change

Through our Agents of Change programme, we equip young people with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to create a healthier, more sustainable future – starting in their own schools and communities.

Meet our planet-protecting Agents:

  • Agent A helps young people explore how their everyday lifestyle choices like switching off lights or taking the bus can reduce environmental impact and save energy.
  • Agent B supports informed, healthy food choices that are also low in carbon emissions, encouraging more plant-based eating and reducing food waste.
  • Agent C focuses on the environmental impact of food production, helping young people understand how their meals can support sustainable farming and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
  • Agent D promotes active lifestyles, showing how choosing to walk or cycle instead of using cars also helps cut pollution and protect our air.

Making Earth Day Count in Classrooms and Communities

Across the UK, our partner schools are leading by example:

  • Hosting energy-saving challenges in classrooms.
  • Growing vegetables in school gardens to reduce food miles.
  • Taking part in clean-up days and zero-waste lunch initiatives.
  • Learning how rescued food reduces landfill emissions and supports people facing food insecurity.

 Small Changes, Big Impact

This Earth Day, we’re inviting schools, families, and businesses to reflect on “Our Power” and how we can all protect “Our Planet.”

Here’s how you can take action:

  • Switch to renewables where possible.
  • Cut food waste by planning meals and using leftovers creatively.
  • Go plant-based one day a week to reduce your carbon footprint.
  • Join our Agents of Change programme and empower the next generation with knowledge and action.

Change starts with education. When young people understand how their food choices, energy use, and daily actions affect the planet, they become powerful agents of change. At Rethink Food, we’re proud to be nurturing that change – one school, one student, one step at a time.

This Earth Day let’s unite. Let’s choose clean energy, sustainable living, and empowered learning.

Because when we rethink food, we rethink our future.
