As the final term of the school year sprints toward its finish line, it’s easy for teachers to feel like they’re running on fumes. The to-do lists grow longer, the classrooms get warmer, and the energy levels start to dip, for you and your pupils.
At Rethink Food, we understand that teacher wellbeing is at the heart of school wellbeing. You can’t pour from an empty cup and the summer term is when refilling that cup really matters.
Here are 5 simple ways to look after yourself in the weeks ahead:
1. Stay fuelled. Prioritise regular snacks and hydration, even if it’s just a 5-minute break with a banana and a breather. Food is fuel, and you need it too.
2. Move your mood. Try a 2-minute stretch at breaktime, a classroom dance moment or walk-and-talk meetings. Micro-movement helps boost energy and mental clarity.
3. Talk it out. Offload to a colleague, laugh in the staffroom, or write it down. Shared experience lightens the load.
4. Protect your time. Block out moments in your diary for yourself, even if it’s just 10 minutes after school with no demands.
5. Do one thing that’s just for you. Something small but joyful, a walk, a podcast, a podcast during a walk!
And don’t forget: we’ve got wellbeing-focused resources for your pupils too. Explore our Feel Good Club for simple, engaging videos on food, movement and self-care.
You’re doing amazing work. Let’s finish strong but gently.
